Cost saving activities for your family this summer (all ages)

With the summer holidays well underway, parents and carers who are struggling for ideas on entertaining the family or looking for inexpensive activities to do with the kids, should look no further than their local family centre. There is also lots to do in our parks in Hertfordshire.

Hearing from children who are out of school or college (ages 5 - 18)

Is your child or young person out of school or college? As part of our commitment to listening to children and young people's views, we would like to hear from them.

  • Is there something stopping you from getting back to school or college?
  • What is difficult about being in school or college?
  • What are the barriers?

We will review this information and it will go towards the development of training and support for schools and colleges.

If your child or young person might like to tell us about their experiences, reach out to our Participation Lead, Sarah: sarah.stevens2@hertfordshire.gov.uk. Sarah is happy to arrange meetings with families for this, but also realises some young people would not be open to speaking to a stranger, and so any content on this would be useful. For example this could be a short film at home, an audio message, a written piece or a piece of artwork.

New youth councils for young people with SEND (ages 11 - 25)

Young people chatting

SfYP already provides youth work projects exclusively for young people with SEND and inclusive youth councils and participation groups across the county. In addition to these, they are now setting up youth councils specifically for young people with SEND aged 11-25, as part of the Voices of Hertfordshire programme.

These new youth councils will give young people the opportunity to explore and discuss issues important to them, developing local projects to make a difference in their communities. They will also work with Hertfordshire County Council Commissioners to bring about changes in services and opportunities for young people with SEND in Hertfordshire.

Exam results support available for young people ages 16 - 18

This summer, young people receiving their A-level, T-Level or GCSE results can get support from Services for Young People (SfYP), Just Talk and the Hertfordshire Opportunities Portal as they decide on their next steps. Whether the results are better or worse than expected, SfYP Advisers offer the latest information and impartial advice to help young people with their important choices. They can support young people to rethink their plans or explore new options if needed. Just Talk offer local wellbeing support for young people who are worried or anxious, and the Hertfordshire Opportunities Portal provides more information about job opportunities, courses and career fairs in Hertfordshire.
